Meta adds real-time translation for seamless chats on WhatsApp:For now, Android users get 6 languages to try with, iPhones get 19; here’s how it works

Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced a brand-new feature that makes chatting across languages easier than ever. The messaging app now lets users instantly translate messages inside the app, available on both iOS and Android in more than 180 countries. Language support: iOS vs Android The rollout looks slightly different depending on your device: Languages supported on iPhone include Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese. How to translate messages on WhatsApp Using the feature is simple: The translation appears instantly whether it’s a 1:1 chat, group, or even a Channel update. Privacy and extra features WhatsApp ensures that translations happen directly on your device, meaning your chats remain private. To use a language, you’ll need to download its language pack. On Android, there’s an extra perk: users can enable automatic translation for an entire chat thread. Once turned on, all future incoming messages in that chat will be translated automatically. Availability and what’s next For now, this feature is only rolling out to iOS and Android. There’s no word yet on when translations will arrive for WhatsApp Web or the Windows app. WhatsApp has also noted that translations may not show up for everyone immediately. Users are advised to keep their app updated to get the feature as soon as it’s available on their devices.
