Udaipur begins trial of AI-managed traffic signals to ease congestion at busy intersections. The system detects lanes with more vehicles and automatically changes red lights to green. Traffic DSP Ashok Anjana said traffic pressure is high in mornings and evenings. “AI will open the lanes with heavy traffic, helping vehicles move faster,” he added. High-resolution cameras and sensors have been installed at Fatehpur intersection for the trial. The system will run for a few days at Fatehpur. Officials will review the results before planning its use at other city intersections. Will also recognize ambulance, fire brigade sirens
Initially, this system will also provide information about traffic pressure at different times from morning to night. Cameras installed in every direction will monitor traffic pressure. Recognizing ambulance and fire brigade sirens, it will immediately turn the signal green to allow them to pass first. The entire AI system can be controlled via a mobile app. Installing this system at one intersection costs approximately 10 lakh rupees.
