Rolls-Royce to join forces with Indian Navy:British company wants to help build the country’s first next-gen electric warship

British company Rolls-Royce has expressed its desire to build India’s first electric warship in partnership with the Indian Navy. The company has stated that it will fully cooperate in building and launching electric warships for India. Abhishek Singh, Senior Vice President of Rolls-Royce, said that they have hybrid-electric and full-electric propulsion systems (the system that powers the ship) for the Indian Navy. These systems are designed to save fuel and increase operational range. Earlier, on October 9, a Carrier Strike Group (CSG) from the United Kingdom arrived in Mumbai with the warship named HMS Prince of Wales. Rolls-Royce’s MT30 gas turbine engine has been used in this ship. MT30 engine generates electricity equivalent to a small city The company’s MT30 gas turbine engine is a powerful and compact engine. The two MT30 gas turbine alternators installed in the HMS Prince of Wales ship, along with four diesel generators, collectively generate 109 megawatts of electricity. This is enough to power a small city. The CSG also includes HMS Richmond and a submarine, powered by Rolls-Royce’s Spey Marine gas turbines and nuclear systems. Ship brought to India to showcase technology Rolls-Royce Director Alex Zino said: The visit of the British warship to India was a fantastic opportunity for Indian defense officials. It gave them a chance to get a close look at the company’s world-leading naval technology. Rolls-Royce believes that this technology can multiply the operational reach of the Indian Navy. Rolls-Royce has been operating in India for 90 years Rolls-Royce has been present in India for almost 90 years and continues to grow its supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering operations in the country.
Over 1,400 platforms across the Indian Air Force, Navy, and Army are powered by Rolls-Royce engines, and the company employs more than 4,000 people in India.
