Grok AI will watch 100M+ posts to personalise your feed:Elon Musk says X will replace old rule-based algorithms to figure out what users actually like

Elon Musk has announced that X (formerly Twitter) is about to make one of its biggest tech changes yet.
In the next 4–6 weeks, the platform will drop all its old, rule-based algorithms, called ‘heuristics’, and hand over the job of content recommendations entirely to Grok, its in-house AI system. Musk said in a post: The X recommendation system is evolving very rapidly. We are aiming for the deletion of all heuristics within 4 to 6 weeks. Grok to read 100 million+ posts and videos a day Musk revealed that Grok will soon start analysing over 100 million posts and videos every day to figure out what users actually like.
Unlike traditional systems that follow preset rules, Grok will learn on its own from user behaviour, what people click, comment on, or ignore. “This should address the new user or small account problem, where you post something great, but nobody sees it,” Musk added, suggesting that the new system could help smaller creators get more visibility. Talk to Grok to customise your feed The update will also bring a new, more natural way to manage your feed. Instead of digging through settings, users will simply be able to ask Grok to change what they see. Musk explained: Users will be able to fine-tune what they see temporarily or permanently just by asking Grok. That means if you want fewer memes or more tech updates, you’ll just tell Grok directly, and it’ll adjust your recommendations instantly. Why this move matters This is one of the most ambitious AI upgrades ever attempted by a social media platform. By removing manual rules and replacing them with adaptive AI learning, Musk wants X to become smarter, more responsive, and more personal for every user. It could also make X more transparent and interactive, since users can literally talk to the algorithm that decides what they see. Part of Musk’s bigger AI vision The move fits into Musk’s larger goal of putting advanced AI at the centre of all his companies, from Tesla’s self-driving tech to xAI’s conversational systems.
Grok, developed under his xAI venture, was first introduced as a chatbot for X Premium users, but it’s now becoming the brain of the entire platform. Alongside the announcement, Musk also acknowledged that X has been underpaying content creators, saying: No, the issue is that we are underpaying and not allocating payments accurately enough. YouTube does a much better job. His comment signals that more updates could be coming soon to make X fairer and more rewarding for creators. What this means for users If Musk’s plan works, X could become the first social platform where AI not only recommends what you see but also talks to you about it. It’s a big step toward what Musk sees as the future of social media, an intelligent, conversational system that learns from you, not just about you.
