
SpaceX’s satellite internet arm, Starlink, has launched its first hiring drive in India, marking the beginning of its operational setup ahead of its much-awaited satellite broadband rollout in the country. In one of the postings, SpaceX noted that as Starlink expands globally to offer low-latency satellite internet, its Indian unit is seeking an accounting manager to handle financial reporting and compliance.
This is a big step towards launching satellite internet service in the country. It is believed that Starlink’s service could start by the end of 2025 or early 2026. Starlink demonstrated service in Mumbai Starlink is setting up ground infrastructure in India. The company has started security trials to comply with government regulations. A demo of the service was given to law enforcement agencies in Mumbai. All this is necessary before spectrum allocation. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and TRAI are currently working on the spectrum framework. Starlink has sought approval to set up three gateway stations in Mumbai, Chennai, and Noida. After launch, the company will expand the gateway network to 9-10 locations. It is planning new sites in cities like Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow. This will provide connectivity in every corner. The lease is for 5 years, starting from October 14. The monthly rent is more than ₹3.52 lakh and will increase by 5% every year. The company has deposited a security deposit of ₹31.7 lakh. This means the business setup is complete, now only final approval is needed. With Starlink’s arrival, prices may decrease India’s satellite broadband market is still nascent. Companies like Jio and Airtel are also entering it, but Starlink’s technology is at a global level. Starlink’s entry into the Indian market will increase competition, may lower prices, and improve connectivity. What is Starlink and why is it special?
