EY and Microsoft have teamed up to launch the AI Skills Passport, a free online program aimed at helping young Indians gain essential AI skills. The initiative targets individuals aged 16 and above, preparing students and early-career professionals for a future driven by AI. The launch follows a global rollout earlier this year, which already saw over 40,000 participants enroll, with more than 13,000 completing the program. According to NASSCOM, only 31% of Indian professionals feel ready to use AI tools highlighting the need for such skill-building initiatives. Why this matters Monesh Dange from EY India said, “In an era where AI is revolutionising work and redefining career paths, the launch of the AI Skills Passport addresses India’s growing demand for skilled AI talent.” “Many professionals remain unprepared to harness AI’s full potential. Together with Microsoft, we’re committed to ensuring this programme is not only free but impactful at scale, providing access for everyone to build essential AI skills,” he added. Course highlights The program offers around 10 hours of self-paced learning, including: Topics cover AI fundamentals, responsible AI, and industry applications in healthcare, finance, and technology. Participants also gain hands-on experience through case studies and exercises. Career readiness modules help with résumé building, interview prep, and networking. Certification and impact Completing the program earns participants a verifiable digital badge to boost their job profiles. EY plans to collaborate with NGOs to extend the program to youth from economically weaker sections, offering mentorship and guidance. Bhaskar Basu from Microsoft India added, “AI is transforming India’s digital economy, with youth at its core. The AI Skills Passport, launched in partnership with EY, reflects our vision of ‘AI for all’ and our commitment to fostering future-ready talent.”
