OpenAI rolls out ‘Chats for Students’ in India:Features 50+ real-world student prompts from IIT Madras, DTC, and more

As AI chatbots continue to enter classrooms around the world, OpenAI has taken a big step toward supporting students in India. On Monday, October 27, the company announced a new education-focused initiative called ‘Chats for Students in India’, designed to help college learners make the most of ChatGPT in their studies. A new learning companion for Indian students The new ‘Chats for Students in India’ webpage features over 50 real-world examples of how college students from top Indian universities are using ChatGPT to study smarter, learn faster, and manage campus life. From “create a study schedule” and “generate a practice quiz” to “get hostel cooking tips”, these prompts show how AI can be both a tutor and a college buddy. The guide draws inspiration from contributions by students from IIT Madras, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), and Delhi Technical Campus, among others. AI in classrooms: Students leading the way According to OpenAI, education is now the number one use case for ChatGPT in India driven entirely by students themselves. They’re using AI not just for quick answers but as a tool to build real-world skills like problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and creativity. India: A key player in ChatGPT’s growth This initiative follows the launch of ChatGPT’s ‘Study Mode’ in India earlier this year. Interestingly, India accounts for 13.5% of the global ChatGPT mobile app user base the highest worldwide. “ChatGPT now is one of the largest learning platforms on the planet. Over 50 per cent of our users in India are under age 24, so students are a major audience,” said Leah Belsky, OpenAI’s VP of Education. 1.
